Sat Nav Is Right On Track

Satellite navigation has been named as the most significant motoring development of the past decade.
It was the breakthrough that revolutionised the way motorists navigate road networks by putting an end to maps on laps, claims motoring website Carsite.
Even though early units cost hundreds of pounds and occasionally sent motorists into fields or off cliff edges, sat nav has become a global success and is now one of the 'must have' driving gadgets, according to the online used car retailer.
'Apart from the safety benefits of not having to drive with a map on the lap, modern satellite navigation units are now available with live traffic alerts, video and music playback, celebrity voices and even 3D rendering of landmark buildings,' said spokesman Alistair Jeff.
'The market is still evolving and looks set for a major change with the expected introduction of free satellite navigation software to the mobile phone market.
'This is a fantastic gadget that has totally changed the way we get around. You realise how significant an invention is when you can't imagine making a complicated journey without one.'
